Fairview 17/09/2024

Course Notes: Richard Fourie (55% place rate) and L Mxothwa (48%) are the course specialists at Fairview. Kotzen is form stable. There’s not a lot of clear favourites in the latter races.

Race 1:

Tartan Queen (3), Royal Venus (6), Cape Flower (1) – Tartan Queen is the bookie’s favourite, Royal Venus had the beating of Tartan Queen in their last and is Laing’s only runner for the day. Cape Flower placed in 2 of her 3 races on this race and had excuses in her only non-place. Ignitethelight has Fourie on board and Greef has said that her work is better than her form. Royal Venus EW is my pick for this race.

Race 2:

Nikes Ray of Light (3), And Action (1), Hat Hot Hat (2) – Nikes ray of light is the bookies favourite and seems to be Smith’s pick for this race over 4, who should run close to 1. And Action is Fourie’s ride and has placed in both races for his new stable. Hat Hot Hat meets the right field and could finally break his maiden. I like Nikes ray of light here.

Race 3:

Gimme’s Lassie (3), Summer Odyssey (6), Montelena (2) – Gimme’s Lassie is the bookie’s favourite by the margin and is the horse to beat in this race. Montelena is Summer Odyssey is Fourie’s ride for this race, with Greef fielding 3 of the top 5 horses in this race, Fourie choosing this horse to ride is a good sign.

Race 4:

Ice Cap (2), Elusive Mata (1), Beijing Boulevard (3) – Elusive Mata finished 2nd over this distance recently and should be favoured over this course. Ice Cap finished 2nd and according to Smith should enjoy the increased distance. Beijing Boulevard finished just behind Elusive Mata in their last and has had a weight swing.

Race 5:

Walt Whitman (2), The Inkosana (3), San Quintin (7) – Walt Whitman won his last and Fourie keeps the reins to be the horse to beat, San Quintin came 2nd in that race and is 3kgs better off at the weights now. The Inkosana is only 5th favourite but loves the poly and has 2 wins in 4 races at this course.

Race 6:

Masked Vigilante (6), Eyjafjallajökull (9), Purple Operator (9) – Greef has 4 of the 9 horses in this race and Masked Vigilante is the stable elect with a “huge” chance according to Greef. Purple Operator beat the favourite in July and is only being given 10/1 odds in this race.

Race 7:

Coastal Path (3), Charlie Malone (4), Swiss Walt (2) – Coastal Path is the bookies favourite, and should’ve won his last, and with blinkers added is expected to win. Charli Malone finished a length behind the favourite and according to Smith should’ve been even closer. Swiss Walt won this race before but is 2Kgs worse off at the weights.

Race 8:

Si Gioca (6), Miss Shaivi (5), Elisa’s Delight (1) – Si Gioca is the bookies favourite but according to Greef might just need this race. Miss Shaivi has finished 2nd in all 3 races at this course but this could be the one. Elisa’s Delight has won at this course before and Kelly Mitchley gives her an each way chance, so she should be back to best form.
